Stories of my "chai" work...
I worked with an elderly couple on their counseling business. I took the initiative to streamline their books significantly. I then created and presented them with easy-to-read reports that gave them a much clearer picture of their combined businesses. While the reports looked simple, their creation required employing some unique tactics in the background as the report still was not presenting correctly after using the software's numerous tools. I figured out how to add my own simple coding so that I could make the reports readable for them. They were very busy and were not accountants. So, they really appreciated that they could finally understand their business better without the need for much translation.
I single-handedly onboarded and managed the daily bookkeeping for eight national-level trust funds that were followed and reported on regularly by the media (they totaled over $26 billion when combined). I did not let the high publicity and worth intimidate me and I was able to consistently serve the trustees clean and simple books and reports (bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly). As a result, our firm earned two more entities, both of which were assigned to me as well.
When I was an affordable housing property accountant, I noticed our highest grossing property was not investing the millions sitting in their operating account. I gently asked my manager why these funds weren't invested and he immediately spoke with the upper managers and financial analysts; they also quickly approved the idea and the property soon started making thousands in interest each month. These funds were used to expedite improvement projects that were supposed to happen much later. It just took a small gentle ask to improve the lives of these tenants significantly.
